Subject: Concerns Regarding Dispensation of Group A Drugs via E-Prescription at Big Pharmacy

Dear Bahagian Amalan Perubatan & MOH,

It has come to our attention that Group A drugs are being dispensed through e-prescriptions facilitated by Big Pharmacy. This raises serious concerns about the legality and ethical implications of such practices.

𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝:

A patient requested antibiotics at Big Pharmacy located at TTDI Jaya, Shah Alam. The pharmacy staff instructed the patient to utilize the Big Pharmacy App to obtain the said prescription. This incident raises questions about the legality of e-prescriptions generated through a pharmacy platform for Group A drugs.

𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬:

We are concerned about whether this practice complies with the regulations set by the MOH on e-prescriptions, particularly for Group A drugs which require stringent control and authorized medical supervision. Is this even legal, or is Big Pharmacy pushing the boundaries of existing regulations?

𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐒:

The Association of Private Practitioners Sabah (APPS) conducted an investigation and identified two doctors linked to the Big Pharmacy App:

1. Dr. Muhammad Amiruddin Bin Hai Hom (MMC: 76267)

• Contact: 012-4865376

• Klinik I-Medic Selayang Jaya

2. Dr. Moo Shyn Meng Benjamin (MMC: 87647)

• Contact: 012-5674479

• Klinik I-Medic Selayang Jaya

APPS contacted Klinik I-Medic Selayang Jaya regarding this matter and was advised to use the Big Pharmacy App. During the investigation, APPS ordered antibiotics through the App and was required to pay a RM10 consultation fee. This raises ethical concerns about the commercialization of e-prescriptions and the integrity of patient-doctor interactions.

𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬:

We are seriously concerned about the potential repercussions of this practice on patient safety and healthcare standards. Specifically:

• Is this the direction the MOH intends for healthcare in Malaysia?

• Who will be held accountable should adverse effects or complications arise from such prescriptions?

𝐔𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

The Association of Private Practitioners Sabah (APPS) urgently requests the MOH to investigate this matter comprehensively and take necessary actions to safeguard public health and maintain the integrity of the medical profession.

We await your prompt action and a public clarification on the legality and ethical considerations surrounding this issue.

Sincerely,

Datuk Dr. James Jeremiah 𝐴𝐷𝐾, 𝑃𝐺𝐷𝐾
